Ioane wins gold for Samoa, first world record broken during Pacific Games

Indian weightlifter, Jeremy Lalrinnunga, has broken his own youth world record in the four-in-one International Weightlifting Championships at Gym 1 in Tuana’imato.

The 16-year-old youth Olympic champion leads the Commonwealth Championship 67 kg men category after the snatch, in which he bettered his previous record of 134 kg with an effortless-looking 136 kg lift.

Samoan lifter Vaipava Nevo Ioane managed a lift of 125 kg, good for silver in the Commonwealth snatch, and gold in the Pacific Games and Oceania Championships.

The clean and jerk section of the competition has begun, and both Ioane and Lalrinnunga will be hunting for more medals no doubt.
