Team Samoa badminton player, Peta Mualia Teo, is banking on home support to push them all the way through the Pacific Games.

Among that support is that of her father and Member of the Council of Deputies, Le Mamea Ropati Mualia, who has been attending all of the games.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Mrs. Teo appealed to the public to support the sport following its recent reintroduction into the country after a long absence.

She said one of her goals is to help Samoa get badminton back on track and she and her daughter will be working on that.

On her representing Samoa in badminton, Mrs. Teo said it was an honour for her to represent the country.

“Whatever results we get today, glory all goes back to the man above for his guidance on our team,” she said.

Mrs. Teo is a mother of three and she is also pushing her children to be more involved in the sport.

Le Mamea was seen at the Multi Sports Center at Faleata when the badminton competition got underway.

Mrs. Teo said her father has always been supportive of all sports they’re involved in. He was also an athlete during his prime.

“Even in our family, our father has always been so supportive and I’m very thankful today that even though we’ve just started to revive badminton into our country, but he has always been there to support us along the way,” she said.

“In terms of sports, my father is also a sporty person himself. He plays golf, hockey and so I also have a sister who is now playing for our archery team so it’s always so nice to be supported by our father every path we take.”
