The Ministry of Police is investigating the theft of personal effects belonging to members of Team New Caledonia during the weekend.

This was confirmed by the Commissioner of Police, Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil.

“We are investigating the incident," he said.

"We are not ruling out any suspects until we are certain of this case.

"And while we are looking around we are also looking at the camp as well."

The Commissioner confirmed that the items stolen include a phone and other "personal belongings."

He said he could not comment any further on their investigations.

The Commissioner said the theft occurred at the Games village.

Fuiavaili’ili said there are Police across the street and the Police have a camp inside the Games Village.

“We don’t let anyone inside unless they have clearance and we are also alert of any suspected activity but so far, the Games Village has been manageable aside from this one incident," he added.

The Commissioner of Police also used the opportunity to urge members of the public to contact the Police of any suspicious activity.

“Overall it has been quiet and members of the public are into the spirit of the Games. And I just want to tell the public to enjoy the Games and be safe.”
