The draws and schedule for the rugby 7s competition at the Pacific Games have been released.

Twelve countries will compete over the two-day (12-13 July) tournament at the newly renovated Apia Park Stadium.

The ten men’s teams have been split into two pools, with the Manu Samoa 7s drawing Tonga, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and American Samoa in Pool B.

2019 World Rugby Sevens Series champions Fiji headline Pool A, where they will come up against the Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Nauru and Wallis and Futuna.

The top teams from each pool advance directly to the gold medal match, so as the top two seeds and only two full-time Series nations in the tournament, Samoa and Fiji will be favourites to face off in the final.

The eight women’s teams have also been separated into two pools, with the Manusina 7s drawing Australia, New Caledonia and American Samoa in Pool A

Samoa is the fourth seed for the tournament behind Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea, who all played on the 2019 World Rugby Sevens Series.

All teams advance to the tournament quarterfinals, with placing in the pool determining matchups.

Australia have elected to bring a more developmental side for the Pacific Games; just five of the players selected had game-time on the World Rugby Sevens Series.
