The new Chinese Ambassador to Samoa, Chao Xiaoliang, visited the Samoa Observer's headquarters at Vaitele on Monday.

Accompanied by two senior officials from the Chinese Embassy in Samoa, the delegation met with the Samoa Observer's Editor-in-Chief, Gatoaitele Savea Sano Malifa, Publisher Muliaga Jean Malifa and the newspapers Editors.

Mr Xiaoliang said he is aware of the work of his predecessor, Mr. Wang Xuefeng, and is keen to continue the partnership for the betterment of the people of Samoa and China.

Gatoaitele exchanged pleasantries with Mr Xiaoliang and said Samoa’s daily newspaper looked forward to continuing its working partnership with the Chinese Embassy.

The Chinese Ambassador highlighted the assistance to Samoa under China’s bilateral aid programme, including infrastructure support for next month’s 2019 Pacific Games in Apia.

The Ambassador also used the occasion to bring the newspaper’s senior management up to speed on developments in China, including economic growth.

Concluding the meeting, Editor Mata’afa Keni Lesa thanked Mr. Xiaoliang and his staff for the courtesy call on the newspaper's headquarters at Vaitele.

Ambassador Xiaoliang presented his credentials to the Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali'ifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II, in April.
