Small and medium-sized businesses in Samoa have been introduced to a cloud-based accounting software, Xero, which promises to help them.

Samoa Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Service Manager, John Lemoa, said the workshop was held in partnership between Business Link Pacific (B.L.P.) and the Chamber to highlight the advantages of the software to local business owners.

More than 70 participants from the private sector and government agencies attended the workshop at Taumeasina Island Resort facilitated by one of B.L.P’s experience business mentor, Emma Crawford-Falekaono.

“B.L.P. also recognises the need to hold workshops like this one for small and medium sized businesses so they can up-skill and learn more about the business advice and support available to them in Samoa," Mr. Lemoa said.

“The software can be setup on a computer, laptop or an app on cellphones and participants had the chance to ask why they should switch to the new software.

"Samoa will benefit from the new switch because our country is slowly undergoing digital transformation and this software is the future of accounting for Samoa which can provide efficient and accurate accounting functions within local business,” he added.

Mr. Lemoa said based on the positive feedback, more workshops like this will be held in the near future.

“Another important aspect that small businesses should have is Business Health Check previously known as diagnostic and referral tool offered by B.L.P. that acts as a diagnostic and referral tool that is a great starting point for small and medium sized businesses that want to know how their business is currently running and identify areas for improvement.

“The diagnostic tool is essentially a questionnaire that delves into the business processes of an organization and helps to identify where quality business advice and support could best be used to boost business growth.”

Xero is a New Zealand domiciled, Australian Stock Exchange listed public software company that offers a cloud-based accounting software platform for small and medium-sized businesses.

B.L.P. is a New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade funded programme that enables small and medium enterprises to access better quality business advisory services that help business develop and grow.
