Samoa Airways need to be innovative, new ideas

Dear Editor,

I refer to your recent article and also the other letter to editors regarding Samoa Airways.

It was the right move for Samoa to back its own national carrier, the timing was right and we need a change for our people – it was too expensive to fly here and no tourist would come here.

Unfortunately the renewed airline did not mean renewed airline operations as well. I can see that’s not the case. Same old, same old.

I see and blame the management team for its loss as reported by Samoa Observer last week.

The downfall that will bring Samoa Airways down is its weak management and how there are no new things coming from the airline.

Even its own staff don’t believe in it. Just last week dropping my son off to fly back to Australia, we could hear the Samoa Airways staff laughing to people about the aircraft and how they would prefer to fly Air NZ.

The C.E.O. is invisible, we never see him speaking on behalf of the airline, it’s either Minister Lautafi or the P.M. We know what happened the last time the P.M. referred to airline C.E.O., the C.E.O. sent the reporter back to the P.M.

Who the world runs a business he can’t answer questions about?

Jacinda Ardern doesn’t speak on behalf of Air New Zealand, why is our P.M. speaking on behalf of the national carrier?

At the beginning, they said the government won’t be involved in running the airline, that’s not what I’m seeing.

The marketing is a big fail. There is nothing new or exciting about anything coming out of the airline.

But then again the person managing this area for Samoa Airways was with S.T.A. for many years and didn’t do anything exciting there so why would he start now? Please Samoa Airways do something new to entice new passengers and then you won’t have only 30 people on your flight to Australia.

It’s basic people, market and sell, sell, sell to boost passenger numbers and not just same plane photos on Facebook.

Clearly something is not right there, I hope the people in the key positions do something fast otherwise this airline is going down and Samoa will be left in even worse position than started.

Where is the Board of the Airline and what are you doing to keep these people accountable?
