Two media students from Samoa will get the chance to experience what it is like to work in the New Zealand media thanks to the Pacific Corporation Foundation's (P.C.F.) annual media programme.

Bachelor in media student, Edward Enoka and the Diploma in Media student, Vaelei Von Dincklage, from the National University of Samoa have been given the opportunity. 

The programme sees the exchange of media students between New Zealand and countries in the Pacific.  It focuses on improving the level and quality of media exposure in the Pacific especially on business and trade issues . 

The intended outcome is greater awareness and better understanding of regional issues across a wider spectrum of individuals, who will ultimately move into more influential positions as their careers progress with a more intimate appreciation of regional matters. 

The internship is fully funded by P.C.F. over the two-week period, including all travel, accommodation, insurance, living allowance and any associate visa costs.

Head of Department (H.O.D.) for Media and Journalism at the university, Misa Vicky Lepou, said this is a very good opportunity for the students of N.U.S. to familiarise themselves with the world of journalism.

"All they see, hear and learn are just faces on television and their voices," said Misa. "So this is a great opportunity for them to meet them and inspire themselves with the people journalists admire as models of journalism. It's great news for us because for the first time, we have two students going."

Ms. Von Dincklage said she is happy about the opportunity and is looking forward to it.

"This is something that every young journalist-to-be looks forward to and it is also my chance to see and familiarise myself with the real journalist life," she added.

For both of them, this will be their first time to travel to New Zealand.
