The Police have arrested Paulo Malele, who is also known as King Faipopo, in relation to new defamation charges.

The alleged defamatory statements were made against Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa'ilele Malielegaoi.

This was confirmed by Commissioner of Police, Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil, during a telephone interview with the Samoa Observer.

“I can confirm, he has been arrested and it is for the same issue, however on brand new charges,” he said.

Fuiavaili’ili said the charges are in relation to a Facebook post by the accused.

He did not elaborate as to which social media post.

The new charges are in addition to the 13 charges pending before the District Court, which are also for making defamatory statements against the Prime Minister.

Malele posted a video on Facebook accusing the Prime Minister of being allegedly involved in a “mafia gang”.

He challenged his “haters” to stop hiding behind the keyboard and to come to him at the Court building in the same post.
