Local Samoan cuisine has become a woo factor for a Polish tourist who only identified himself as Michael.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer of his experiences since arriving in the country, he said the quality of the local cuisine has surprisingly wooed him.

"There is nothing striking but just some surprising friends. Like I’m surprised how good the food is. Like I usually have bad luck, maybe not anymore, but when I was travelling I didn’t really enjoy the food in other countries.

"But here since the beginning, actually everything is very tasty and different places and everywhere where we go is very good, so that was a nice surprise," he said.

Samoa's famous palusami together with the traditional breakfast meals are his favourite local dishes, he added.

Travelling to the country with partner Paulina, they said they wanted to travel for a few months and relax in the Pacific Islands as part of their trip around the world.

"We wanted to have a bit more relaxing time while we’re travelling for a few months and it was more intensive before coming here. And here is like it was like a time just to relax and it seems like a good place just to enjoy the nature and slow pace."

The pair are partly working and staying at Agnes Florist, a local business that is close to town.

"In a farm close to Apia. Agnes florist business where they sell plant, she has a very big garden and we help her a bit and stay there as well for a week like a work and travel thing.

"We’ve travelled all over Savaii Island mostly and we arrived here a few days ago and we work in a garden, in a little farm for a week and then we will actually head south of this island somewhere at Matareva probably," he added.

The couple have been in Samoa for a month and have two more weeks to go.

Revealing that they travelled to Samoa after it was recommended by a friend, he said the heat surprised him and he blamed himself for mistakenly thinking the country would have a cooler temperature.

"The heat is too much for me I was surprised to check the temperature, because before coming I think I made a mistake, because it’s much hotter than I thought, well it's okay but if I was to choose carefully I would never go to such a hot country," he said.

The pair's next stop is Fiji before they head back to Asia, with Indonesia the most likely destination after Fiji.
