The Manu Samoa 7s team for the last two legs of the HSBC Sevens Series in London and Paris is yet to be finalised but the squad members are excited as the countdown starts. 

Manu Samoa 7s captain and vice captain, 24-year-old David Afamasaga and 27-year-old Tomasi Alosio, told the Samoa Observer that the boys are training hard to make the management's decision harder.

"It’s the last two legs of the series and we’ve got the chance to hopefully do very well and bring a cup home.

"Training really hard for the past week but one more week in Samoa before we head over and you know, teams not finalized yet but everyone’s fighting for a spot to get on to that plane to London," said David of Fasito'o and Afega.

Training at the Samoa Rugby Union base at Tuanaimato, the training squad comprises 21 members including five who play overseas. 

"Exciting thing for us is that coming back from the last four tournaments — we’ve been in the cup quarter finals — which is very pleasing so for us is about building on the consistency.

"And see that we’ve produced as a team and the boys in camp are working very hard, and we’ve only got a short time left on island for us final preps before we fly off this weekend," added Tomasi, of Levi Saleimoa and Falefa.

The two leaders also revealed that there are currently two new young talents who joined them in the training group.

"Two young and new exciting players in the training team who are both backs. Bringing them in is real good for us because it builds depth in the squad.

"And you know there always injuries happening and guys coming and going so it’s just really bout building depth and these are two very young exciting players that have joined the squad," added Tomasi.

The final team is set to leave the country on Saturday with plans to spend a night in Auckland before flying off to London on Sunday.

The pair said the team are determined to do better in their next game and took time to thank the people of Samoa for the support shown towards the team's efforts in the last legs of the series.

"I personally feel like we’ve got a real positive support and you know you can just feel the country, families back at home and around the world are very proud of how we’re doing, but as I said we can’t get comfortable on our last results. We’re only as good as our last game so it’s about producing the consistency again," said Tomasi

"We’re loving the support from our people here in Samoa and for us that just motivates us to go out there and give a 110 per cent and we encourage and urge our people here in Samoa to continue to support us and we thank them as well for getting right in behind us even at our tough times."
