Mothers Day was celebrated in different ways by various churches throughout the country today.

At the Assembly of God Church at Solosolo, they honoured the mothers within their congregation by presenting them with various gifts.

More than 20 mothers received gifts from family members and members of the church.

Pastor Peniamina Asesina said their desire was to make the mothers feel special.

One of the elderly mothers, Faalua Maselino Vitale, from Solosolo said it is always nice to be spoiled now and then.

“I am a mother of nine and if I was given a choice to choose what I would want out of this whole world it would be absolutely nothing but instead I would pray and return the thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father that he has blessed me with long life," she said.

“I am forever grateful to our Heavenly Father that I was fortunate enough to have lived for than 70 years to not only care for my kids and grandkids but to be with them, you see other children have lost their mothers and it is a sad day for them on Mother’s Day which is why I think I am truly blessed and I owe it all to God."

The 73-year-old said that she will always praise and glorify the Lord God because without Him she would not have the gift of life.

“So many people ask me why I have so much faith despite my health condition. In 2008 I started to face a problem with my legs, they are very weak and it is difficult for me to walk.

“But I always advise people that I have lived a life of blessings and miracles and I believe that our faith in God should never waver despite any difficulties or challenges we face.

“My God is mighty and faithful and His love is everlasting and I am happy and content with that.”

The Mother's day celebration continues with a public holiday on Monday.
