“Provide me the strength to carry on.” Happy Mother’s Day Siaifanua!
On the steps of a bright pink store in Vaigaga, Siaifanua Rita Finau waits patiently for two out of her three children to return from school.
She and her friends, other mothers with children at the local primary school sit and play cards, or talk amongst themselves, and share stories about their children.
Ms Finau said for her, Mother’s Day is another opportunity to offer her thanks to God. She and the others often spend their time talking about God, Ms Finau said, to get patience, and peace from Him.
“All I want for Mother’s Day is for God to provide me with the strength to carry on,” she said.
“It’s not about the gifts and money you get on Mother’s Day but it’s about thanking God for the strength he has given me that made me reach this beautiful special day for mothers.”
Without God, she said, she would not have her children. Though her life isn’t always easy, and her pockets are not always full, Ms Finau makes sure her children get to school and make the most of their time there.
“The difficulties we face most of the time is the lack of financial support, but we’re still striving to push our children to school, to get the knowledge they need and get a bright future. That’s why we’re here,” she said.
“Although we still have no money in the pocket, we still come to escort them to their classrooms so that they understand what we want for them to achieve, even without money.”
