With Mothers Day on Sunday, the teachers of Vaimauga College were showered with gifts by their students as a show of appreciation and love on Friday.

Year 13 student and Head Girl, Taliilagi Palale, said teachers are looked up to as mothers in their role of educating children inside the classroom.

Ms. Palale presented a letter on behalf of her class to acknowledge the love and support their teacher, Vaeluagaotuamasaga Reti, has shown them since the beginning of school this year.

"It is these special days that God gives to celebrate and for this moment, we're gathered to celebrate Mother's Day. Mother, we want to say that you are the home and the arch of the family in our classroom in times of trouble and downfalls," said the letter.

As the Year 13 students will head to tertiary studies next year, they wrote: "Mrs. Reti, you have planted a good seed inside this school and that good seed will lead us to our future next year when we go to university."

Mrs. Reti couldn't help but express how blessed she is with her students.

"I am just so grateful and blessed to be a teacher and it's not about the gifts or anything but it's about the relationship you build with your students and how you raise them to be inside the classroom," she said.

"It's not just about giving them the knowledge they need but also about giving them the love and comfort they should feel while they're in the process of learning."

Mrs. Reti believes teaching her students English and other subjects is not her only responsibility, but also the duty of what a mother does inside her home, and she couldn't have been happier.

The mother of four says she is blessed to have a family that supports her role as a mother and a teacher.
