Cabinet will make the final decision on the future of the National University of Samoa Deputy Vice Chancellor, says Minister of Education, Sports and Culture (M.E.S.C.), Loau Keneti Sio.

The position was recently held by Pesetā Dr Desmond Lee Hang, who also became the university’s Deputy Chairman last year. Consequently, the position was advertised by the university this year.

“As of today, there has been no official word from the National University of Samoa (N.U.S.) Council who met this week on this matter. Please be mindful, the Council can only recommend, we will make the final decision.

"I’m certain their recommendation is sitting on my desk so I will not find out until I get into the office on Monday," the Minister said, in an interview with the Sunday Samoan.

The N.U.S. Council met this week to discuss the issue surrounding the employment contract of Peseta. Following the meeting, Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, A’eau Chris Hazelman said the decision will be kept a secret until they inform Loau.

He said that process of deliberation and reporting is a requirement under the law of the national university. The Sunday Samoan also contacted Peseta for comments, but he did not respond.
