Samoan bodybuilders have had success at the 2019 Australasian Championships in Sydney, snatching gold in one category with another two getting silver by coming second in their men's and women's class.

Albert Wilson from Alafua came second in his Novice Body Building class, and Tunu Nancy Matautia-Elisara from Maluafou finished second in the Women’s physique competition.

Arona Mataia won gold in his class for the men’s Physique competition, and Jenny Uli and Tai Vili also represented Samoa at the event on Sunday.

Countries participating in the Championships included Tonga, Tahiti, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, American Samoa, New Zealand, Indonesia and Australia.

The next major event for the Samoan Bodybuilding Federation this year is Mr and Ms American Samoa in July.

National coach Johan Keil said before the trip that he wanted his athletes to get a taste of international competition.

“Australasia’s a big competition so it’s good for them.”
