Man charged with manslaughter over boy's death

A young man has been charged with manslaughter in relation to an incident last year where a 15-year-old boy from Samatau was allegedly pushed to the road and died after he was hit by a bus. 

The 20-year-old male will appear before the Supreme Court next week for trial and will be represented by lawyer, Unasa Iuni Sapolu.  

According to a police statement in September last year, the fatal incident occurred on a Friday at 7.00pm which resulted in the death of a 15-year-old. The circumstances surrounding the incident revealed that two boys aged 15 and 16 were double riding a bicycle with a 20-year-old male on a separate bicycle were playing on the road. 

As a result, the two boys bicycle accidentally veered towards an oncoming bus on the opposite side of the road which led to the incident.

The  boy died at the scene but the 15-year-old sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the Leulumoega district hospital and was later transfer to the Moto’otua hospital. 

At the time, Police charged a 32-year-old bus driver with negligence driving causing death.
