The Nofotane market day has been postponed to next month due to severe weather conditions.

It was previously scheduled for today February 28 at the Malaefatu Reserve, Sogi.

The purpose of the market day is to enable Nofotane women, whose market activities are funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, to put on display their various income generation activities.

Self-employment is one of the objectives of the Nofotane women participating in the project under the Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG). It has enabled them to help their husbands with the family’s financial needs, the children’s school fees, the family’s medicals, and contributions to the church.

SVSG – in collaboration with Canadian government through the Canada Fund for Local Initiative – have worked together over the last six months to ensure local Nofotane business earners are able to maintain their business status to create a better tomorrow.

Some of the challenges faced by these women are accessibility to markets, time management and product development. But they have persevered and attended further training to see that the changes they made in their lives are sustainable.

SVSG has urged members of the public to join a worthy cause, and be a part of someone’s story who broke the secrecy surrounding domestic violence.
