Eight charged, one more suspect on the run

The Police have confirmed that eight suspects have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm in relation to the beating of a Fijian man who is fighting for his life in New Zealand.

Spokesperson Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu said the suspects have been apprehended, while the police are still searching for one other.

The nine suspects allegedly beat up a Fijian student who had only been in Samoa for a few weeks and was attending the Australian Pacific Technical College.

The student was identified as Allan Nokunokuivalu and he has since been evacuated to New Zealand for treatment.

Su’a said the student is still in a critical condition.

“We hope that this kid will recover,” said Su’a.

Su’a said the suspects will remain on the holding charge of causing grievous bodily harm and if he passes away, they will be charged with murder.   Mr Nokunokuivalu was a student at A.P.T.C. at Papaigalagala and on the night of the incident two weeks ago, he went out to one of the local night clubs.

He was allegedly assaulted outside of the club and was rushed to the hospital due to the seriousness of his wounds.

Mr Nokunokuivalu was taken to New Zealand for further medical treatment.
