A man who claims to have foiled an alleged kidnapping attempt at Vaitele last month has been granted bail.

Liua Va’asili Savai’inaea, 27, appeared before District Court Judge Talasa Atoa Sa’aga on Tuesday for mention.

However, the prosecution made an application to the Court for the matter to be adjourned so they can finalise the charges.

The application was granted by Judge Talasa and the matter is adjourned to next Tuesday, without the defendant entering a plea.

Last month the police charged Savai’inaea with giving false information to the Police, and has been in custody up until now.

Earlier this year Savai’inaea allegedly claims that he saved two young girls at Vaitele on the evening of Saturday when people in a white van tried to kidnap the young girls.

This led to the Ministry of Police investigating the matter which revealed that the allegations by the accused are not true.

The Ministry of Police then issued a statement, cautioning about the number of false and misleading information being shared and circulated on social media.

They also warned members of the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands, and that damage to properties, as a result of individuals taking matters into their own hands is a criminal offence.
