Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi has finally made the much-anticipated announcement about Fiame Naomi Mata’afa becoming the Deputy Prime Minister.

Tuilaepa made the announcement at Faleata this morning where he has just named his Cabinet Ministers line up.

Fiame is not only the Deputy Prime Minister; she also becomes the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.

The announcement follows Fiame’s victory over Faumuina Tiatia Liuga during the H.R.P.P party vote two weeks ago where Fiame also became the Deputy Party leader.

Fiame, the Member of Parliament for Lotofaga, becomes the first woman to hold the Deputy Prime Minister’s position.

Today’s announcement will be celebrated worldwide, especially as there has been such a strong push for more women in Parliament.

The former Deputy Prime Minister, Fonotoe Pierre Lauofo, has been completely left out of Cabinet.

He is joined by Faumuina who has also not been handed a Cabinet portfolio.
