More than 80 students graduated from 13 different programmes at the Australian Pacific Technical College (A.P.T.C) yesterday.

The graduation held at Tuanaimato Gym 1 was well attended by families, friends and special guests of the A.P.T.C.

The students graduated from programmes such as Commercial Cookery, Engineering - Fabrication Trade, Engineering - Mechanical Trade, Health Services Assistance, Hospitality, Individual Support, Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing, Tourism, Disability, Training and Assessment and Youth Work.

Since its establishment in 2007, around 10,600 students have graduated from A.P.T.C. including 1336 Samoans.

The graduates received their certificates from the Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, who congratulated the graduates.

Juliana Tuiletufuga, spoke on behalf of the graduates to thank the lecturers, parents and families for their support.

“You have brought a high standard of competency, opened new horizons and widened our personal visions and aspirations; along with providing extensive opportunities for many of us in Samoa, as well as for our Pacific neighbors,” she said.

“The skill, knowledge and the right attitude has enlightened us to continuously study, improve on our current status quo and has without a doubt; ensured Samoa and all involved Pacific countries with better future in the relevant industries we are employed in, our community, our families and villages, besides serving God and our respective churches."

Twenty-four-year-old Josie Samia who graduated with a Certificate III in Individual Support believes that serving others is a must.

“This will enable us to support people in an aged care and community setting or in their own homes, to carry out everyday activities and maintain personal care. It’s a career that I know will help and support my family especially those who are in need everyday."

“In our culture, we are always taught to serve and support our elders and personally, I help where I am needed especially with my family, siblings and most importantly my parents."

“We all know that when we are young, serving elders and supporting each other is a must and as we grow up, these lessons of service become instilled in our nature."

She said she is grateful to God, her parents and everyone who supported her throughout her studies.

“I want to thank my parents, Samia Iosua and June especially my church (Worship Centre) for their continuous prayers."

Australian High Commissioner to Samoa, Sue Langford said 99 percent of graduates have maintained or secured employment with noted increases in salaries.
