Fifteen year old, Eti Tamaolefale has been awarded the Oceania Football Confederation’s scholarship to attend, One Tree Hill College in Auckland, New Zealand this year.

A former pupil of Maluafou College, Eti is the first player from Samoa to attend the new OFC Education Center Programme which was launched this year in partnership with One Tree Hill College to develop and inspire young football stars academically.

For Eti, soccer is the sport he loves the most and he’s been playing from primary school days.

“I knew from the beginning that soccer is a God-given gift,” Eti said. Eti has made outstanding contributions to the club, their community and the game of soccer. “When I first started, it was fun, simple and basic techniques were already there to practice.

“And I’m still practicing, because one day soon, practice will make it all perfect.”

He said that the opportunity given to him is a huge step forward not only for his education but most importantly his love of the game of soccer. “I will use this opportunity wisely and hopefully in the future in God’s perfect time, I’ll represent Samoa at the international level.

Eti is the eighth of 15 siblings.

“Helping my family is something that’s always been on my mind and the scholarship offered is an opportunity for me to do well.

Eti was selected from 11 players after a preliminary tournament in July this year, and he is already in New Zealand.
