A group of Japanese lecturers and students from the Hokkaido University of Education (H.U.E) visited the Samoa Observer yesterday.

The group is made up of officials working on the Primary Mathematics Science Project (P.M.S.P), which is part of an effort between the Samoan and Japanese government to improve the teaching of Mathematics and Science in Samoa.

The visitors met with the Editor of the Samoa Observer, Mata’afa Keni Lesa.

Prior to their visit to the Samoa Observer, the group had conducted workshops with teachers in Savai’i and Upolu.

In addition to the Lecturers, five H.U.E students are also in Samoa to help with the programme. At the same time, the students will learn the Samoan culture and tradition when they visit schools in Upolu and stay with families in Savai’i. In the meantime, the group is holding several Maths and Science workshops this week.

There is one at Falefitu Primary today, at Vaigaga Primary tomorrow and then one at Salailua Primary School on Friday.

There are 39 schools in Samoa involved in the P.M.S.P.
