The Samoa Federated Farmers Incorporated (S.F.F.I), the new farmers organization set up in 2016, are recipients of a $200,000 project grant from the Civil Society Support Programme (C.S.S.P.) in their 2017 round of project funding for Non-Government Organizations (N.G.Os).

The funds will be used to improve and expand koko production and marketing primarily targeted for S.F.F.I members located in the koko belt of Samoa.

The organization is giving attention to koko given the high priority the Government, via the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (M.A.F), is giving to the reviving the koko industry including also the increased interest overseas for Samoa’s koko in various forms.

The crop also provides an important traditional drink with high local market demand for Koko Samoa and for the production of locally made chocolates.

S.F.F.I. members interested in being considered for this project should contact Panoa Papali’i Moala (Tel: 28902), the S.F.F.I. Vice President, who is spearheading the project together with a five person Steering Committee made up of the organization’s Council members.

S.F.F.I. was one of only a few N.G.Os that were successful in their bid for this valuable C.S.S.P. project funding. As well, the organization has also secured additional funding for a project focused on the use of shade trees for koko.

S.F.F.I. until recently was known by its former name as Federated Farmers Incorporated (F.F.I). It currently has a membership of over 120 farmers involved in different fields of agriculture and fisheries. It has its official office located at M.A.F-Nu’u.
