Going to church will not solve our problems

Dear Editor,

Re: Neglect comes at a cost

Interesting reading this editorial. I refer to the bit which reads: “We have often said that the root of the growing social ills in society today is the result of family values being lost.”

No, this is a fallacy, and no matter how often it is repeated, it does not make it a truth.

Society has many layers, the family is an essential structure in society, but it is not the sole determinant.

In the last few decades so-called family values are becoming second-tier.

What we are fed through TV clashes with any values of decency we can spread at home to our children.

In the case of Samoa, just because we all go to church every Sunday does not make us holy or even good. There are many things that can be done to help these children, but church-going is not going to solve the issue, is it?
