Cronulla edges Gold Coast in NRL round 7.

Valentine Holmes scored a try in the 71st minute to clinch Cronulla's 25-20 win over Gold Coast in Australia's National Rugby League Sunday, staying in fourth place after seven rounds.

Cronulla led 14-6 after a first half in which they lost James Maloney and Luke Lewis to concussions but gave up the lead soon after halftime.

Despite having only one fit player left on the bench after in a match in which four players were lost to head knocks, Cronulla rallied to break a 20-20 deadlock with a field goal to Chad Townsend in the 69th minute. Holmes then scored the try that clinched the Sharks' fourth win, leaving them tied on eight points with North Queensland, Parramatta and Melbourne.

In Sunday's second match, Newcastle beat Wests 18-16 for their first win of the season.
