Reappointment of Commissioner for Prisons and Corrections Services

Cabinet has reappointed Taitosaua Edward Winterstein as Commissioner for Prisons and Correction Services for the next three years.

Taitosaua has been in office for the last three years.

The position was advertised as required by law. Three candidates submitted applications and all three were called in for interviews.

At the conclusion of the interviews and assessments by the panel according to the Public Service Act 2004, the panel submitted its recommendation for Cabinet’s final decision.

Taitosaua served as Manager for the Environment and Renewable Energy section with the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa, (SROS)  from 2007 to 2013.  

Prior to that, Taitosaua was employed by the New South Wales Department of Corrective Services in Australia from 1990 to 2007. 

He also served in the New Zealand Department of Justice as Assistant Warden from 1987 to 1989 on a part time basis.

Taitosaua also worked in the New Zealand Meteorological Service office in Wellington from 1984 to 1989, and before that he was in the New Zealand Department of Education from 1982 to 1983.

Taitosaua started his working career in Samoa with the Ministry of the Prime Minister and the Samoa Meteorological Office from 1976 to 1982.

Afioga Taitosaua holds a BSc from the University of the South Pacific and a Diploma in Business from Massy University in New Zealand. He is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College before further studies overseas.
