The Media and Communications programme at the National University of Samoa (N.U.S) has a new Head.

She is Misa Victoria Lepou. Her appointment was announced by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Fui Asofou So’o on Friday.

“I feel privileged and honoured to be appointed for this important position”, Misa told the Sunday Samoan.

Having been a faculty member for a long period of time and having gained extensive practical experience as a journalist, Misa is no stranger to the industry.

The N.U.S Media and Communications department, established in 2001 as an initiative of the Journalist Association of Samoa, is characterized by a “more Samoan sort of journalism,” said Misa.

She added that the N.U.S media school, which is also part of the recently formed group Media Educators of Pacific, emphasizes a close relationship to regional overseas universities, such as James Cook University in Australia.

Having been around in media and the educational world for a long time, Misa also knows the difficulties she might have to face in her new role.

“According to the newly appointed director of finance, there will be another budget cut this year,” she said.

“But we try to work with all the possibilities that we have. It is a challenging moment, but I am really looking forward to my new tasks as the head of this department.”
