Air New Zealand flight NZ992 returned to Auckland Airport on Sunday afternoon due to an issue with its air conditioning system.

Confirmed by an official of the Air New Zealand in Samoa who spoke to the Samoa Observer on the condition of anonymity, he said, “Safety is important to us.”

“I’m not in a position to comment on the matter but I can confirm that the plane turned back to Auckland Airport on Sunday.

“The flight, NZ992, departed Auckland Airport at 3.45pm and turned back due to mechanical faults.

“The flight is now rescheduled to arrive today (Monday) at 2.30pm with all the passengers of the original NZ992 flight.

A New Zealand Herald news item said the plane turned around just past the tip of the country.

Customers were accommodated in Auckland on Sunday night before Samoa yesterday.
