Commitment to family

The most important thing to do is to love your family with all your heart.

That’s the belief of Mose Fa’asavalu of Leulumoega who is a man committed to looking after his mother and siblings.

The 55 year old says his greatest joy is being able to help someone with whatever little he has.

“The joy comes from putting the welfare of others above your own. That is what love is,” he said.

“My family’s wellbeing is my main responsibility; it’s what I live for and I will do whatever I can to provide for them.

“I live here alone and I have worked this land for over than 10 years.

Mose said even though his family is well settled, he still makes use of his time to help out.

“You know, I’m the only one without a job, but I’m very happy that I can still come up with some money to help my family.

“Of course the money is decent money because it comes from my own taros and bananas.

“My mother and siblings are living inland but I stay here to tend our land here. I love it here.

“It’s mostly for our food. Right now, no matter how hard we work and how successful we are, sometimes there will always be struggles.

But let me tell you, it’s only the challenges of life.

We are keen to figure out things for ourselves and face all our problems because no way are things always smooth; there are good times and of course bad ones.”

As for working alone, he says it’s not a problem.

“I have everything I need here,” said Mose.

“I know everyone should have partners to help ease the work, but for me I have Jesus.

“I’m not rushing into having a family because I want to find the right one but at the moment Jesus and I are together in this life.

“We will let me know when the right time comes for me to marry and have kids.

“I chose Jesus in my life, I do what he says and I put him first in any thing I do.”
