For her holiday, Lys Genser Amslerdam chose Samoa to be her getaway destination.

“I’m here for a holiday and to get away from studying for a bit,” Lys told the Dear Tourist team.

She said she usually looks after two boys, whose aunty is Samoan, and they recommended Samoa to her.

The boys, Lys said, told her about Samoa and that is how she came to know about the island.

Lys is from the Netherlands and is currently studying in a university in New Zealand. She arrived last Saturday and will be leaving the island on Sunday.

She said that she had wanted to take the bus for a ride but unfortunately no one helped her.

“I asked the people and they couldn’t help me so eventually I was so hot and I just walked here (Tanoa Tusitala Hotel) and make use of the swimming pool,” Lys said.

Her first expression of Samoa was amazing as there were not many tourists, which makes it unique.

Lys also explained how she appreciated the lovely people who made her stay feel so comfortable, especially the lady whom she bought stuff from at the market.

This is Lys’s first time to Samoa and also her first trip alone. She said it was a bit scary because she was harassed by a male at the market and that’s why she ended up going to Tanoa Hotel for a swim.

“I got harassed by a guy at the market and am not going there anymore and I wouldn’t recommend the market to tourist travelling alone. I just didn’t feel safe there,” she said.

Despite that, Lys is planning to return to Samoa for vacation, but with her relatives.
