The Upolu and Savai’i Boxing Ring hosted its second round of amateur boxing tournament last weekend.

It was held at their Vaitele Boxing Ring inside Papali’i Poloa’s compound.

The tournament started from 35kg pin bout to the 69kg welter for the normal bouts fights, with two special bouts from 75kg middle weight and 81 kg light heavy division.

According to the Samoa Amateur Boxing Association General Secretary, Faletolu Su’a, the tournament aims to provide a platform for amateur boxers to develop their skills and knowledge of the sport.

He added the tournament helps develop these young boxers for upcoming international tournaments that Samoa Amateur Boxing is set to host later on this year.

“We are set to host the Oceania Youth Championships later on this year and this tournament helps identify local boxers to represent Samoa.”

“We are also hosting the camp for youth boxers in May as a preparation camp for boxers for the Youth Olympic in October.”
