It’s a first for Samoa
Bluesky has a reputation. Since it was formed, it has pushed the envelope in terms of providing better and faster internet connection for its customers.
After acquiring Samoa Tel, Bluesky began with basic second generation network.
After rapidly increasing the technological standard in Samoa, Bluesky has introduced a number of technological advancements throughout the years.
Finally, six years later, Bluesky, has done it again by unveiling 4G+, which is the fastest internet speed to reach our shores.
This a huge turning point for Samoa as it allows its customers to connect far beyond our shores, quicker and easier.
In celebrating this major achievement for the company and the country, Country Manager of Bluesky, Alex Abraham, details the stepping stones the company has taken in order to arrive to this significant milestone.
“Bluesky commenced its operation commercially on the 1st of April, 2011. At a time when we had about 50 or so base stations and 2G internet expirence which gave us edge speed,” he said.
“We served businesses and homes with broadband and fixed line services through our extensive copper and wire band network.
Within the same year of commencing, Bluesky brought 3G to Samoa.
“At the end of 2011, it was time to make a bold step,” he said.
“That’s when we introduced 3G to Samoa. This was a huge milestone for us in the deregulated market with stiff competition.
After a successful 3G launch, we continues to invest in the technology, bringing more base stations across Upolu and Savaii.
“In 2011, we expanded that technology to bring 3.5G which gave us faster speeds and better internet experience. In 2012, we introduced Moana TV product which is an I.P. based technology which severs all our customers on a worldwide network. It brings a range of content of over 23 channels.”
Introducing 4G+ is not a first for the company. Mr. Abraham added, “Over the last couple of years, we continued to expand our broadband network and brought our customers closer so that we can achieve a better network experience for business and home users.”
“I can happily say that we deliver speeds of over 3 megs per second to one gig for our customers. Our mobile network has almost doubled in size since 2011.
“We have made significant technology advances that have enabled us to deliver far superior access in speed and experience.”
“I’m proud to say we’re the first to deliver the first 10 Gig here to Samoa, the most extensive fibre network. This with the latest routing technology makes Samoa one of the leading countries in the Pacific.
Since the Samoa American Samoa (S.A.S.) cable landed in Samoa in 2009, this international capacity has enabled Samoa to benefit through the capacity and quality required to bring us where we are today.”
“Bluesky believes in this undersea activity. We’ve take the opportunity to also be part of the second cable coming to Samoa by investing in the Samoa Submarine Cable Company, which also bring great fruition, connecting Samoa and Fiji to the rest of the world.”
This enables our vision to make Samoa a connected island to more communities to the Pacific and beyond. Through to our partnership, Bluesky has been a major development partner with the government and several major initiatives .

Bluesky hosted a light show last night to celebrate the achievement. It is planning a free concert tomorrow.
