Mother needs your help

A mother of eight needs help.

Sieni Moe, from Fasito’o-tai, suffers from a condition where seizures are frequent occurrences unless she takes her medication.

The problem is that she cannot afford it.

Her husband is the only breadwinner in the family and his pay cannot sustain her medical needs.

“She needs medical help especially when she stays home alone with her kids,” said Senara, a relative.

“There was one incident; it happened again and her daughter was with her and she didn’t know what to do, her mother bit her tongue luckily we were right next door. We rushed in with a spoon to prevent her from choking.”

At one time, Senara said she had an attack when she was pregnant and she ended up giving birth in the bathroom.

“She wasn’t aware of any of it when it happened,” said Senara.

During her interview with the Village Voice team, we witnessed Mrs. Moe’s struggles.

Mrs. Moe said she has eight kids altogether but the other two have been adopted, largely due to her condition.

“My sickness is not good at all,” she said. “There is a reason we don’t have a plantation to support my family because the doctors have recommended for me not to go out in the sun, this is one of the causes of my seizure.

“They have advised me countless times not to cook because I don’t know when it happens and this is why I’ve got so many scars. I have been burnt several times because sometimes when it happens it is when I am cooking.”

She also suffers from memory loss from time to time.

Away from her medical condition, Mrs. Moe’s family struggles because they don’t have electricity or water.

“If it weren’t for my cousin Senara and her family, I wouldn’t have been able to receive water,” she said.

“The house we live in is also very old and rundown but we cannot do anything because we have no money. We need to rebuild our home for health reasons for my children.”
