“Be prepared to move out.”

For Fa’atoa Faufua, 70-year-old male from Taufusi, that’s the mantra for the next few days.

He is worried about his family’s safety with regards to the continuing bad weather.

Fa’atoa told the Village Voice yesterday that he is alarmed by the weather patterns and the flooding at Taufusi.

“We been facing this situation for many years now,” he said. “The only choice we  have is to  move away from this area.

“The safety of my family is very important to me.”

Fa’atoa lives with his family at Fugalei. Two of his kids and 3 grandkids attend Vaimoso Primary School

“We had been planning to move out of this area many years ago but due to some family problems its stopped us.

The elderly father said he fears for his family’s safety.

“All we could do is sit and look at the flooding because we can’t do anything about it,” he said

“Our family stays at Vaitele for now, just for our safety after this then were back here to do the cleaning.”

Health, he said, is a major issue after the flooding.

“It’s very bad,” he said. “There is normally an outbreak of some sort after the flooding.”
