Five weeks five wins.

And so it goes for B.B.E. Vaiala after they defeated Lupe o le Soaga yesterday to retain the Taula Apia Rugby Union Shield at Apia Park yesterday.

Prior to the main game, Vaiala Under-20 team claimed the Under-20 competition trophy from Lupe ole Soaga who held the trophy for four consecutive weeks.

Rugby was at its best at the Taula Apia Rugby Union Senior A shield match against Ulalei B.B.E. Vaiala and Lupe ole Soaga Magiagi, in front of a terrific crowd.

Vaiala was up by four points going into the break, 14-10.

Lupe ole Soaga later took the lead within the 15 minutes of the second spell, scoring a five pointer under the post, from a team work effort try by substitute back rower.

It wasn’t long and Ulalei B.B.E. Vaiala bounced back when second five Kaino Fuataga crossed over for a five pointer, giving his side a two point lead, 19-17 points.

Lupe ole Soaga worked hard but couldn’t quite capitalize when they needed to.

Vaiala continued their momentum and scored another try to winger Hugo Fata.

In the end Vaiala prevailed over Lupe ole Soaga, 26-17.

Vaiala faces a tough task next week when they take on Marist St. Joseph’s Rugby Club.
