Police officers injured during a drug raid

Two police officers have been injured during a drug raid last week Friday 10 June 2016 at Vailu’utai around 1pm. 

The two officers were members of the Tactical Operation Squad who were injured from booby traps on the plantation. 

The Police media officer, Maotaoalii Kaioneta Kitiona said there were nails drilled into a piece of wood which was hidden in a hole and the officers stepped into them. 

The two police officers have been recovering since. 

Maotaoalii said the operation was handled by the Narcotics Division of the Ministry of Police with the support of the Tactical Operation Sector [TOS]. 

The raid was executed around 1pm last week Friday and there were more than 500 marijuana leaves and seeds found on the accused property. 

Maotaoalii said there was not only marijuana that was found but police also seized a 12 gauge shot gun and 22 rifles together with 18 ammunitions. 

Five people were arrested on that day however only three were charged, a couple of 35 and 31 years of age and a 20 year old male from the same village. 

And the other two suspects were released that day. 

The three accused are facing several charges in relation to narcotics and illegal firearms and are still remanded under police custody until the 28th June 2016 for mention in the Supreme Court.
