Apiliato Tulifao has made his parents very proud.

He was named the top student for the Year 7 level of Fagali’i Primary School.

The 12-year-old dedicated his achievement to his parents for all that they have done for him.

“Everything that I have received today (Friday) is to show my parents that I do not take their hard work for granted. Taking me to school and paying off for everything that I want is not easy.

“Every time I ask them for things about school and other materialistic things that I want, they never fail to provide for me,” he said.

He came first in English, Samoan and Visual Arts.

Apiliato is the eldest son of Melvinas Tuuau and Elia Tulifau.

His mother, Melvinas says she is very proud of her son and his accomplishments.

“No words can express how grateful I am for the gift of children. He is our eldest child and I couldn’t be any prouder of him.

“He is not only paving the way to lead his siblings to the right path, but he is going to be the one who will also be my right hand in everything that we do within our family,” she said.

Melvinas believes that her son’s attainment is the best Christmas present that will ever be given to her.

The mother of six shared her journey of motherhood and the struggles that she faced in raising her children.

“I don’t work; I stay home and look after the kids. There is only one person who works, which is my husband. To have six kids is not easy; six means six different personalities that I would have to deal with every day.

“The way I approach the other child is not the same way I approach the other child, they are all different from the other, but one thing is certain and that is I am always fair.”

She mentioned that being a housewife is a good thing because she is able to focus on her children’s welfare.
