Teachers and students looking forward to programme
A group of students and teachers from Samoa College are currently on an education exchange programme in China and are looking forward to their 12-day programme.
They flew into Guangdong Province in central China on Wednesday as part of an education exchange programme from September 18-29 and were met at the airport by teachers from Huizhou Hualuogeng Secondary School.
The Huizhou Hualuogeng Secondary School is a key public high school funded by the province’s municipal government and is directly supervised by the Huizhou Education Bureau. It is also a national model secondary school in Guangdong Province. The school has 91 classes with more than 5580 students and 385 faculty members.
The group from Samoa comprises teachers Selu Tuala, Repeka Aluni, and Heseti Hakai and students Faatafao Toia, Nicolina Ah Kuoi, Marina Tolo, Masina Lia Avapalu, Paulo Setefano, Asiasiga Tautiaga, Henry Tuiafiso, and Nathan Malaitai.
Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Tuala said the weather in Huizhou City – which is where they will be based – is hot and feels like home.
“It was a long flight but we thank God we have arrived safely and we are excited for the new experience which we are about to embark on.
“It is my first time in China and I have to say that there are so many tall buildings everywhere I look.
“It definitely feels like home due to how hot it is when we left the airport,” Tuala said.
The students and teachers will participate in activities such as learning Chinese culture, participating in outbound activities with Huizhou students, visiting local scenic spots, historical sites, and participating in art activities.
