Samoa College group begins tour of China
A group of students and teachers from Samoa College have arrived in Huizhou city in China’s central Guangdong province to begin a 12-day education exchange programme.
The programme will run from September 18-29 and is themed “Discover Huizhou: A tour of Friendship between Chinese and Samoan Youngsters”. Chinese government officials have done reciprocal visits to Samoa, after an agreement was signed in 2015 between China and Samoa.
The visiting delegation from Samoa were treated to a banquet on Wednesday hosted by the Huizhou Hualuogeng Secondary School.
Huizhou Hualuogeng Secondary School headmaster, Huang Jintian, welcomed his guests from Samoa and said they prepared the banquet with the hope that the Samoans will have a taste of their hospitality.
Huizhou Bureau of Education deputy director, Mao Shaoqiong, said Huizhou lies in the south-eastern part of Guangdong Province and is at the north-eastern tiptop of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Guangzhou, Shenzhrn and Dongguan, and is also close to Hong Kong.
“It covers more than 11,000 square kilometres on land and 4.5 square kilometres on water, with five counties or districts and two national development zones under its government.
“We now have 1,469 schools of all categories, harbouring 1,200,000 students and 90,500 teachers and staff,” she said.
She also said that their city has always placed an emphasis on education exchange and cooperation with foreign countries including the districts of Hong Kong and Macao.
“In 2016, since the establishment between the Hualuogeng Secondary School and Samoa College, we have been conducting various kinds of cooperation programs, we also have sister schools from America, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Macao.
“In 2015, I had the privilege to visit Samoa as well as Samoa College. There, I witnessed the hospitality of your people and the beautiful natural sceneries left me with an impression so deep that I still cannot forget to this day.
“In 2017, 10 teachers and students from Samoa College came to Huizhou to study and live together with 13 counterparts at Hualuogeng Secondary School. During that time, they established such a strong bond that it left each and every one with a beautiful and unforgettable memory,” she added.
She wished for the program great success and fruitful results between the two schools.
