Savai’i has been rocked by two deaths during the festive season.

According to the Police the first death occurred last week during Christmas, where a fight broke out during a drinking session, where the deceased was punched and fell with his head landing on the concrete. The deceased, who is in his 40s, died on his way to the hospital.

A week later — on New Year’s eve — a man in his 20s was stabbed in the neck in an incident at Sapapali’i.  “The victim was in a drinking session with other men from Sapapali’i and a fight broke out — the victim suffered stabbed wounds to his neck,” stated the Police.

Two men have since been arrested and are currently detained at the Savai’i police station, in connection with the two deaths.

Police Superintendent Soloi Iosefa Tuimanunei confirmed the two incidents from Savaii.

“I can’t comment any further on this matter,” he added.
