Food, fun and a little bit of sun wouldn’t hurt.

Such was the case at the Business House and Open Mix White Sunday Regatta hosted by the  Laumei Outrigger Canoe Club last Saturday at Mulinu’u.

Ten teams competed in the event which included a first ever 1000m mini marathon.

Teams included two teams from the Department of Police, two teams from the Bank South Pacific ,  two teams from Ah Liki Wholesale, Kramer Ausenco, Millenia, Oceanic Communication Ltd and Digicel Samoa.

Also, local competitive teams participated such as Nafanua Outrigger Canoe Club from Matautu (2 teams), Tautai Outrigger Canoe Club from Mulinuu, Pualele Outrigger Canoe Club from Taumeasina and hosts Laumei Outrigger Canoe Club (2 teams)

“Strong winds of up to 30mph gust didn’t deter the spirits of the novice paddlers from the respective teams as they battled it out for supremacy on the water and to be crowned the Laumei Business House Champions of 2016,” said Jonathon Porter, from Laumei Outrigger Canoe Club.

There was something for everyone at the event including a free bouncy castle for children and sausage shizzle provided by the hosts.

The event was to raise funds to buy new paddles, maintain and upkeep club facilities and equipment. Because of the costly maintenance of the va’as, Laumei is consistently looking for sponsors to help offset the cost.

“Laumei Outrigger Canoe Club would like to thank all the teams that participated,” said Porter. “Special thanks to our loyal sponsors H.J. Keil Auto and Mini Mart at Malifa, Taula and Samoa Beverage Company, Digicel Samoa and Happy Kids.
