Re:  It’s about time we talk about parking metres

Apia is a rapidly growing economy and can quickly turn into a traffic nightmare for the downtown area if traffic is not managed properly.

One such managing tool is parking meters. I agree with the article, but implementation will require some buy-in from downtown merchants and business.

Parking Meters are so advanced now it can be programmed to charge a low fee initially and can increase for those who hog the spot by feeding the meter all day.

Hours can be set for meter to only work from 8am - 9pm for example. Free on weekends and Holidays.

This can help merchants with keeping spots available for potential shoppers during business hours. The long term results will be rewarding. I speak from experience as I have managed a Parking Meter Division for over 20 years for a major City in California. Best of luck.
