Elderly father values gift of life
Taula Aperila couldn’t have been more grateful for the opportunity to celebrate another Fathers’ Day in Faletagaloa, Safune, last weekend.
Born on 4 April 1938, Taula was one of the oldest fathers who attended the Fathers’ Day service at the Safune Methodist Church last Sunday.
Given an opportunity to speak during the service, Taula emotionally expressed his gratitude for God’s blessings in his life.
The 80-year-old said he suffered from multiple diseases, the price you pay for aging and he feared not waking up every morning.
Members of the congregation were touched with his words as he gave thanks to God for his guidance, healing and protection.
“I was in so much pain over these past few months, but I thank God for his powerful healing upon me,” Taula said.
He also thanked members of the church for their prayers.
The joyous celebration was also followed with performance, which brought smiles to those present.
“As we’ve seen now with so many accidents and unexpected deaths, life is too short to be filled with hatred, regret and sorrow, but a heart full of thanksgiving to the Lord.”
For the fathers of Faletagaloa, they may not have all the materialistic treasures, but they live in the favour of God’s blessings and the love of their families.
