The disparity in Samoa

Dear Editor,

Samoa’s poor will never catch up to the mid level of societal middle class, only to be cast away to the abyss by a systemic corruption practices by a govt. eager to leverage out Samoa’s resources (land) to finance its aggressive economic expansions.

And over taxation of our people has resulted in the social and economic disparity we are seeing today with our youth.

I think it’s better to leverage out your time to being a farmer rather then trying to exchange your time for money working because it will never equate to a fair return of services render vs return (pay) because of low wages.

Inflation in Samoa is compounding to the point where the real value of the Tala is 10 sene or so.

That’s 90% inflationary pressure linger in the financial system.

Those figures are hypothetical but gauging from the last figures of 60% of GDP and more money pouring in from every directions from all sorts of investors, I would assume that’s where it’s at or even worse.

Only time will tell the reality of our financial health if the yearly financial report is not treated as “creative accounting.” or “cooked the books.” The same old way the mafia conducts its business by keeping two books.
