Silia Ama’ama’s dream has come true after she scooped the Dux prize and five other awards at A’ana No. 2 College’s prize giving this week.

It was a moment of joy for the 18-year-old because it was always a dream of hers to achieve such high recognition in her education.

Silia wants to become an accountant in the future.

She shed tears when she walked up to the podium to receive her award as memories of her parents struggles to give her a good life flashed across her mind.

“I am indebted to my parents struggle and how they used to put my education before anything else in their life and I am proud to be their daughter,” she said.

“Honestly, I’ve seen it with my own eyes, but thank God for the strength and the courage stored in them to keep them going.

“Every achievement I fulfil in life is for my parents and all my relatives who stood by me throughout my darkest days.

“Honestly, there were days I would sit and look at how far I have come and would tell myself that I still have a long way to go and that I should never give up but to trust in the Lord.”

Silia said the only way she would make her parents proud was through her academic achievements and a good job in the future to help her family.

“I will work hard towards getting a very good job so that my parents’ sweat and struggles are not put to waste because that is what they deserve for all their hard work.”

Her parents, Rev. Ama’ama and Toeafuataeao Ama’ama said nothing less could be expected from Silia.

“She is the eighth of our nine children and we are very proud of her,” Mrs. Ama’ama said.

“My daughter has made me proud today (Tuesday), I am proud of my daughter and all the struggles that we endured together.

“We thank God for the life of our daughter and also our relatives for their endless support towards her education.”

Silia has roots at Satumalufilufi and Lauli’i.
