The defendants face a total of 45 criminal charges.

The charges were not read out in Court but the Court Registrar was instructed to liaise with the defendants about the charges against every individual.

After a short adjournment the defendants were called back.

“The Court has noted down all your not guilty pleas to some of the charges and your guilty pleas to most of the charges,” said His Honour Patu.

The defendants declined the offer of legal representation.

According to the Police summary of facts, some of the defendants were former cashiers and store clerks.

The Police report said that aside from store items removed, it’s alleged the cashiers also took cash from the cash register.

The matter has been adjourned until 21 August.
