A double celebration was celebrated in the Gogo Family last week at Matautu, Falelatai.

First it was the opening of “Maota o Nefunefu” and then the bestowal of the title “Misa” to thirty members of the family.

A member of the family Misa Loata Misa said that the Maota o Nefunefu was opened on Tuesday and the matai bestowment was held on Wednesday.

Both Reverend Tautiaga and the chairman of the village Misa Anae cautioned and encouraged the new matai to be unselfish, loving and respectful when making decisions for the good of the family.

“If you want to come first, you must learn to follow, if you want to be a leader you must serve first,” said Reverend Tautiaga.

“You must put the needs of your family first and not yours. A good matai means that his family’s needs are more important than his own needs.

“A good matai will be known as a good leader when members of his family are blessed by his leadership.

“It’s not easy to be a leader of the family because you will have to lead by example.”

Chairman of the village of Matautu, Falelatai  Misa Anae encouraged the new holders to lead by example and most of all with love.

“Without love you won’t be able to lead your family,” he said.

“Show them the love that they deserve and they will serve you as best that they can.

“It’s not going to be easy that’s the truth: but if you lead your family with love and respect, then everything will be okay.

“Ask God for his guidance and his protection over you and especially ask him to give you the knowledge and the strength to lead your family with honesty and love.

“There will be times that you will be put on the spot to make some tough decisions, but with the Lord on your side He will show you the right path and the honest decision to make.”
