The harder the struggle, the more glorious the triumph.

That couldn’t be more accurate for Laumua o Punaoa Technical School Dux, Porita Mikaele.

Porita is the youngest of her parents, Tolusefulu and Mikaele Iosefo’s seven children from the villages of Salua Manono and Saleufi.

The 22-year-old couldn’t have been any happier.

“I stand proud with my parents today because receiving the Dux award has been my aim from last year,” she said.

“I wasn’t satisfied with my secondary school results the past years, but I made sure that nothing will stop me from getting the Dux award.

“Now this is one of the many days the Lord has made for me and my family to rejoice and be glad in it.

“I thank God for everything that He has instore for me, for now, I’m looking at finding a job next year to help and also to give back to my parents and family.”

Porita said her parents had always supported her education and her goals in life.

“It is a hard world out there and these days it is all about the papers,” she said.

“I am so thrilled that finally I got an award and all glory to God.”

She was emotional when she spoke of how supportive her parents and families were over the past two years.

Her advice to youths alike is to grab any opportunity to learn because it may never return.

“We all have failures in life, but we have to stand up, grow up and never give because there’s always light at the end of every tunnel.”

Her proud mother, Tolusefulu thanked God for blessing their daughter with the education, perseverance and humility in her education.

“We the parents have supported her morally, financially and we have always supported her through prayers.”

Porita received top awards in Computing after two years of study.
